ComEd - Refrigerator/Freezer Recycling Program

ComEd now has a program where you can save money by recycling your old refrigerator or freezer.

Overview
If you have an older, working second refrigerator or freezer parked in your garage keeping your soda pop or ice cream cold, it's probably costing you more money than you think. Did you know that it could use up to five times more electricity than a newer model, consuming nearly $150 in energy each year?

Benefits
With this in mind, it doesn't make sense to hold on to it, especially when ComEd will:
- Have it hauled away for free.
- Pay you $25 per appliance.
- Dispose of it responsibly—dismantling it and recycling its parts in an environmentally responsible way.
- Pick up and recycle your old working room air conditioners along with your refrigerator or freezer.

Qualifications
ComEd and JACO Environmental have teamed up to offer this unique program designed to save energy and help the environment. You must be a ComEd residential delivery services customer, and your refrigerator or freezer must meet be:
- Between 10 and 30 cubic feet in size.
- Empty and working at the time of pick-up.
- Accessible with a clear path for removal by contractor.

Program funding is limited. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted.
