Part of what I would like to start doing in 2010 is becoming more organized and finding better ways to be more efficient and effective in all the things that I do on a daily basis. I'm sure many of you have had that as a New Year's Resolution as well. So on Sundays, I will share with you a tip, website, or other thing that I think might help us in this area. Of course, I am open to suggestions, so please leave a comment or send me an e-mail if you have any suggestions or ideas.
That's why I'm calling it "Sanity Savers Sunday," because I'm hoping that by becoming more organized, I will regain some sanity - okay, so one can only hope! :)
With so many people in my household, I usually find myself surrounded by a lot of laundry and "stuff." One way I pare down on the "stuff" is to go through them about twice a year to figure out what clothes, toys, and accessories the kids have grown out of and what clothes, accessories and crafting things I've outgrown. Then, I usually try to participate in a resale or two to make some extra money. Whatever does not sell I either donate or store until the next resale or garage sale.
The first time I participated in a resale my kids were asking why I was selling some of the clothes they had outgrown. Mind you, they were ages 3-5 years old and I was selling their infant clothes. They definitely did not fit into those clothes anymore. Well, I ended up finding scooters for my sons (one was Spiderman and I think the other was Batman) for only $2 each at the resale. I ended up making more than that from what I was selling. So, after that, they always ask me when the next resale is scheduled. They now understand that it's okay for us to sell the things they no longer use so they could get things they could use now.
As for me, I used to have time to do a lot of crafting. I love to scrapbook and rubber stamp and have many supplies to show for it. However, I have not had as much time these days to devote to my stamping and scrapbooking and as new things come along, I don't really need some of the supplies I barely touch now. So, I have sold some things on Ebay and other online venues, and have participated in a scrapbooking/stamping consignment sale. I ended up selling quite a bit at that consignment sale.
The biggest perk of participating in a resale or consignment sale is that it's like having a garage sale without having to spend an entire day outside or having to market the garage sale. The biggest downside is that you never know what will sell or not sell. However, if you were to do your own garage sale, it would be the same thing. You couldn't predict how much traffic you'll have or which items will sell. You just have to take that chance. You could end up selling more than you had in mind!
