One thing we like to do is take our kids to fun places where they will learn something new. And, of course, we like to do these without breaking the bank. One place we enjoy going to is the WVHS Planetarium. Every month, they have a family night, where for just $2 per person, you will learn something new about astronomy in their great planetarium! The best part is the parking is free. They have two time slots for each date - 6 PM and 7 PM and each lasts about an hour. They also usually provide star maps so you can look up at the night sky after leaving the program and try to find the stars on the star map.
Their upcoming family nights are:
Friday, February 5th - Space Shuttle. On February 4* the space shuttle Endeavor will deliver the final connecting node to the International Space Station. The astronauts will also install the Cupola - a robotic control station with six windows around its sides and another in the center that provides a 360-degree view. Come explore this mission and future missions of the Space Shuttle. (*Tentative date)
Friday, March 5th - Hubble Space Telescope. It has been almost a year since the Space Shuttle took astronauts to Hubble for a service mission. Now Hubble is able to 'see' the universe like never before. Come explore the latest images taken with this great telescope. The program will conclude with a tour of the current night sky.
Friday, April 9th - TOP 10. The 'Top 10' Astronomy Misconceptions. After presenting hundreds of programs during the 09-10 school year, the planetarium director selects 10 misconceptions from visitors of all ages. Come learn about these common mistakes in a fun and educational way. The program will conclude with a tour of the current night sky and highlights for summer stargazing.
Enjoy!
