Stay warm with cool science at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago this winter. MSI is offering FREE Museum Entry to Illinois residents on select dates each week in January and February, starting January 10, 2017.

Illinois residents receive free Museum Entry on the following dates:
January 10-12, 16-19, 24-26, 31; February 1-2, 7-9, 14-16, 21-23, 28

See more than 25 trains make the journey from Chicago to Seattle in the Great Train Story. Shake off cabin fever with a run inside a human-sized hamster wheel. Climb aboard a massive tractor and follow the fascinating journey of food and how it travels from the farm to your table. Peek inside the whimsical Colleen Moore’s Fairy Castle, complete with a pair of Cinderella’s tiny glass slippers. Experiment with light to create a giant 30-foot rainbow.

On January 16, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and a free day for Illinois residents, MSI will launch its annual Black Creativity program with a special Family Day. Explore the grand opening of the Juried Art Exhibition, which features more than 100 works of art from African-American artists, created by both students and professionals from Chicago and throughout the U.S. The Juried Art Exhibition is the longest-running exhibition of African-American art, with works being displayed at MSI annually since 1970. Also on Family Day, take part in a collaborative printmaking project that will be displayed at MSI. The Juried Art Exhibition and collaborative printmaking project are included with Museum Entry. FREE Fishing Days June 6th - 14th

National Fishing and Boating Week is June 6th-14th this year. During National Fishing and Boating Week, most states offer free fishing days. These are days where anglers are allowed to fish on public bodies of water without a fishing license.

Free fishing days are a perfect opportunity for beginners to try out fishing for the first time. If you already have a fishing license, consider taking a friend or family member who has never been fishing, out on the water for the day.

Please note that the individual states may place certain restrictions and other regulations may apply, so be sure to contact your state fish and wildlife agency for specific state regulations.

FREE LEGO Mini Build Tuesday, 4/7

On the first Tuesday of every month, visit your local LEGO Stores and learn how to build a cool mini model and then take it home. Mini Models are unique and themed for each month and quantities are limited. Mini Models are not for sale and cannot be purchased. One free per child. Chicago History Museum Save Up To 48%

More than 60 photos–both color and black and white–take viewers from station to yard to car, telling the story of America’s transportation infrastructure and the vital role Chicago played as one of the country’s largest transportation hubs. In addition to the images themselves, visitors can dive deeper into history through interactive elements including subject biographies, a reproduction ticket window, and ambient sounds inspired by the noises of the day.

Admission also includes access to Unexpected Chicago, the exhibit that puts one special item from the museum’s collection on display for a limited run of two months. Past artifacts that have been displayed in this exhibit include Hugh Hefner’s little black book, John Hancock’s billfold, and a game-worn Scottie Pippen jersey from the 1998 championship series.

The city’s oldest cultural institution, The Chicago History Museum houses an awe-striking array of intellect-tickling artifacts, documents, and artwork from the city’s past and future-past. On any given day, glance at Stan Mikita’s jersey or venture through the hall of dioramas, which showcases epochs of Chicago’s history, from its earliest days as a malört-trading outpost to its triumphant World’s Fair, made possible by an uneasy alliance between Daniel Burnham and arch-rival Mike Ditka. The museum also displays rotating temporary exhibitions, such as Shalom Chicago, an exhibition about the local Jewish community’s history, and Vivian Maier’s Chicago, a local photographer’s images of Chicago in the 1960s and 70s.
